Persian (Farsi) Legal Translation Services

A shenasnameh from Tehran, a taskera from Kabul, a divorce judgment neither a court clerk nor a generalist translator can decipher: Persian legal documents need specialists. Jurilingua certifies Farsi and Dari translations that US immigration authorities, judges and attorneys accept without hesitation.

Persian Farsi legal document translation at Jurilingua

Farsi Is Not Arabic, and the Difference Decides Cases

Persian borrows the Arabic script and then goes its own way entirely. It is an Indo-European language with four letters Arabic lacks, its own grammar, and a legal vocabulary shaped by Iranian civil law and, for Dari, by Afghanistan's very different institutions. Hand a Persian document to an Arabic translator and the result may look plausible while missing the meaning, which is precisely the failure mode an asylum officer or opposing counsel will find. Our Persian desk exists so that never happens to your file.

The documents themselves demand seasoned eyes. An Iranian shenasnameh is a lifelong booklet where births, marriages, divorces and children accumulate in successive handwritten entries, often by different registrars across decades. Dates follow the Solar Hijri calendar, which our translations convert and display alongside the original so no examiner has to trust arithmetic. Names romanize a dozen ways, and we lock spellings to passports before translating a single page. This is the standard Jurilingua has held since 1984, applied by a firm whose professional accreditations include corporate ATA membership, and whose story is told on the about page.

From Asylum Files to Sanctions Litigation

Two very different caseloads keep our Persian translators busy. The first is human: Iranian families navigating visas and green cards, Afghan allies pursuing Special Immigrant Visas and asylum with taskeras and service records as their proof. Iran being outside the Hague Apostille Convention, and with no US embassy in Tehran, authentication takes unfamiliar paths, and adjudicators compensate by scrutinizing translations harder. Our certified work is built for that scrutiny, and our immigration document team knows each program's expectations in detail.

The second caseload is commercial and contentious. Sanctions compliance reviews, OFAC-related investigations, frozen asset proceedings and family disputes over property in Iran all surface Persian-language evidence that American lawyers must read exactly, not approximately. We translate it under the confidentiality and consistency standards the firms in our law firm practice expect. Clients reach us from the country's Persian-speaking centers, Los Angeles above all, alongside Washington DC, New York and the Bay Area. Matters that shift between Persian and its regional neighbors draw on our Arabic and Turkish legal translation desks without changing hands.

Persian Translation, Question by Question

Is there a difference between Farsi and Dari translation?

Enough to matter legally. Iranian Farsi and Afghan Dari share a foundation but differ in vocabulary, official terminology and document formats. We assign your file to a translator native to the right variant and say which one in the certification.

Can you translate my entire shenasnameh, including handwritten pages?

Yes, and USCIS generally wants the whole booklet, not just the first page. We translate every entry, marriages, divorces, children, amendments, deciphering older handwriting and flagging anything genuinely illegible rather than guessing at it.

How do you handle Iranian calendar dates?

Iranian documents are dated in the Solar Hijri calendar, roughly 621 years behind the Gregorian year. Every date in our translations appears converted, with the original preserved for reference, so your 1367 birth year reads correctly as 1988 wherever it needs to.

Iran has no apostille and no US embassy. Can my documents still work here?

Yes. For most US purposes a properly certified translation of the original is the essential piece, and where authentication is needed, channels exist through the protecting-power arrangements handling US-Iran consular matters. We prepare the translation layer correctly and point you to the right authentication path for your situation.

Are you able to work on sanctions-sensitive material?

Translating Persian documents for US legal proceedings, compliance reviews and government filings is standard practice for our team, handled under strict confidentiality. Where a matter touches licensed activity, we work within the framework your counsel defines.

What are the rates and timelines for Persian translation?

Booklets and certificates carry flat fees with next-day delivery in most cases; contracts and evidence sets are quoted by volume, and rush service covers interview and hearing deadlines. Full details on the pricing page, exact numbers within 30 minutes.
