Thai Legal Translator
Thai Legal Translation Services
From a marriage certificate issued by a Bangkok district office to a joint venture agreement under the US-Thai Treaty of Amity, Jurilingua translates Thai legal documents with the precision American courts, USCIS and corporate counsel demand. Certified, revised and delivered on deadline.
Why Thai Is One of the Hardest Legal Languages to Get Right
Thai script runs without spaces between words, has no capital letters and no plural endings, and shifts registers dramatically between everyday speech, bureaucratic prose and the formal vocabulary reserved for official acts. Even the calendar works differently: Thai documents are dated in the Buddhist Era, so a certificate issued in 2569 BE was issued in 2026. A translator who forgets to convert that date, or who transliterates a name differently from the client's passport, hands USCIS a reason to issue a Request for Evidence.
These are not exotic edge cases to us; they are Tuesday. Jurilingua has translated legal and financial documents for more than 40 years, and our Thai desk works under the same discipline as every other: a specialist translator, an independent reviser, and a quality methodology aligned with ISO 17100 requirements. Names follow the spelling on official identity documents, Buddhist Era dates are converted and shown clearly, and Thai legal concepts from the Civil and Commercial Code are rendered with their functional American equivalents, not word-for-word approximations.
The firm is a corporate member of the American Translators Association, GALA and the North American Translation Alliance. Our full credentials are listed on the accreditations page, and the people behind the work are introduced on our team page.
Certified Thai Translations, and the Legalization Question Answered
For use in the United States, every Thai document we translate can be delivered as a certified translation with a signed statement of accuracy, the format USCIS, state courts and federal agencies expect. Our certifications are accepted nationwide, and we guarantee them: if an authority raises an issue, we resolve it at no cost.
Clients sending documents in the other direction often ask about apostilles, and the answer has just changed. Thailand acceded to the Hague Apostille Convention in mid-2026, with the new regime expected to take effect in early 2027. Until then, Thai documents bound for official use still go through the traditional chain of legalization by Thailand's Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the relevant embassy. We prepare translations so they slot into that chain correctly, and we track the transition so you do not have to. It is one more reason clients treat us as advisers on the paperwork, not just vendors of words. When you are unsure what your receiving institution needs, ask us first.

Immigration and Family Law Attorneys
Fiancé visas, marriage-based green cards and international custody matters generate a constant stream of Thai civil documents. Our immigration translation team knows the pitfalls that trigger RFEs and removes them before filing.
Corporations Doing Business in Thailand
The Treaty of Amity gives American companies rare ownership advantages in Thailand, and using it means paperwork: affidavits, company certificates, BOI filings. Our corporate translation practice handles the full set.
Real Estate Buyers and Their Counsel
Foreigners cannot own land in Thailand, so purchases run through condominium titles, long leases and structured agreements. We translate chanote title deeds and contracts as part of our real estate translation work.
Litigation Teams
When disputes involve Thai parties, evidence arrives in Thai: correspondence, ledgers, agreements. We deliver litigation-grade English versions with the consistency that law firm clients need for depositions and exhibits.
Serving Thai Speakers and Their Lawyers Nationwide
The largest Thai community in America lives in Los Angeles, home to the country's only officially designated Thai Town, with substantial communities in Las Vegas, New York and the San Francisco Bay Area. Wherever you are, the process is the same secure upload, and the same certified result. Thai matters also tend to travel with their neighbors: many of our clients come back for Vietnamese, Chinese, Korean or Tagalog work, coordinated by the same project manager. See reviews from clients who have made that round trip.
Questions We Hear About Thai Documents
Do you convert Buddhist Era dates on Thai documents?
Always. Thai official documents are dated in the Buddhist Era, which runs 543 years ahead of the Gregorian calendar. Our translations state the converted date so American officers read 2026, not 2569, and no one has to do arithmetic on your case file.
Will USCIS accept your Thai translations?
Yes. Each translation is certified with the signed statement of accuracy immigration regulations require, and our certifications are accepted by USCIS, consulates and courts across the country. We guarantee acceptance and fix any issue free of charge.
How do you handle Thai names that can be spelled several ways in English?
Thai names can be romanized in more than one valid way, and inconsistency between documents is a classic cause of immigration delays. We match spellings to the passport or prior filings you provide, and note official transliterations where relevant.
What does a Thai legal translation cost?
Because Thai script has no spaces between words, word counts are estimated from the text volume, and most personal documents are quoted as flat fees. Contracts and litigation files are quoted after review, typically in the $0.12 to $0.25 per word range. Full details are on our pricing page.
Do Thai documents need an apostille for use in the US?
Thailand's accession to the Apostille Convention is expected to take effect in early 2027. Until then, Thai documents requiring legalization go through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and embassy chain. For most USCIS filings, a certified translation of the original is what you need; we will tell you honestly if your situation requires more.
Can you translate a marriage certificate from a Thai district office quickly?
Yes. Certificates issued by Thai district offices, including marriage, divorce and name change records, are usually delivered within 24 hours as certified translations, with expedited same-day service available for interview deadlines.
