Start with what a Ghanaian document physically carries. A registry entry shows an entry number, an issuing office, a date and an inked seal. A statutory declaration carries the stamp and signature of a Commissioner for Oaths. A judgment carries a court seal and a registrar's signature, and files that leave the country for official use often pick up a further ministry authentication stamp on the way out. Every one of those marks confirms the origin of the paper it sits on. None of them says anything at all about what the text means once it is carried into a second language, which is why the mark and the translation are never substitutes for each other.
Speech makes the American requirement more demanding, not less. When the source is audio or video, the deliverable has to be honest about two operations rather than one, so our certificate names the medium, the file length, who listened, where the audio was unclear, who translated the transcript afterwards, and the date the whole thing was signed. Inaudible stretches appear as inaudible. Overlapping speakers appear as overlapping speakers. That structure is what lets a filing survive contact with three different readers: USCIS applies whatever translation requirement its own form instructions carry; a federal judge measures the exhibit against how that district treats non English material; and a state court judge tests it against whatever the local rule says about paperwork arriving in another language.

Asante, Akuapem and the Vowels a US Keyboard Cannot Type
Twi is one part of Akan, and the part matters. Asante Twi and Akuapem Twi differ in vocabulary and in verb forms, and Akuapem Twi carries the literary and scriptural standard, which is why a nineteenth century church register or a printed religious text reads unlike the speech of an Asante client from Kumasi. Fante is a close relative and it is not the same thing. Put a Fante speaker on an Asante recording and you get a transcript that is fluent, confident and wrong in exactly the places nobody will check. We assign by variety at intake and record which variety we assigned, so a later reviewer can see the choice rather than infer it.
The writing system is the second trap. Akan is tonal, it marks vowel harmony, and it uses two vowel letters that plain ASCII and most office keyboards simply cannot produce, so transcribers under time pressure flatten distinct words into one spelling and a whole clause changes meaning. Tone does the same work: the same letters with a different pitch pattern can separate a statement from a question, or one relative from another. USCIS does not object to that, but it does insist on seeing the sequence, and a petition that presents customary evidence as though it were an ordinance certificate invites the exact request for evidence the client was hoping to avoid.
Births and deaths sit with the Births and Deaths Registry, and late registration is common enough that we plan for it. When a birth reached the register years after it happened, the corroboration is frequently a weighing card from an infant welfare clinic, sometimes a baptismal entry, sometimes a school admission record, and the translation has to explain what each item is before an officer can weigh it. Estates run into a harder problem: the family house sits on stool land, and the interest a US probate court is being asked to distribute may be a lease and an allocation note rather than a parcel anyone can order sold. The reverse direction carries the family work that never reaches a filing.
